Dalcroze Eurhythmics
Much of my philosophy of music education is informed by my involvement with Dalcroze Eurhythmics, an approach that teaches music theory and musicianship through creative movement and improvisation. Dalcroze helps musicians of any age to experience the basic elements of music - rhythm, melody and harmony - in a physical and fundamental way. By learning to express nuances of tempo and dynamics in movement, both children and adults can deepen their experience of music.
I teach eurhythmics courses for adults and children at the Lucy Moses School of Music and Dance, the Diller-Quaile School of Music in New York City. I also teach musicianship and ear training at Columbia University and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City and Ear Training at Columbia University.
Dalcroze can also be experienced in single workshops. Musicians, teachers, actors, therapists, etc. all around the world have found inspiration through the work. If you or your group are interested in a eurhythmics workshop tailored for your specific needs, I'd love to hear from you. You can contact me through my blog, which contains writing about my teaching and performing activities.
